INVISIBLE THREADS

‘INVISIBLE THREADS’ is a mixed-media cyanotype series about my experience with endometriosis. This work represents the physical and mental challenges that come with this chronic illness and how it can completely consume your life. 

Being sent from one pill to the next, words that sting, hiding pain behind a mask and the quiet shrinking that comes from an inner force you cannot control. 

Too often, our pain is still dismissed, minimised or treated with a lack of understanding and care. With this work, I want to make the invisible visible, creating space for recognition, compassion and a deeper understanding of living with chronic illness. 

It affects 1 out of 10 women worldwide, though I believe the numbers are even higher than that. There are so many of us still searching and going from doctor to doctor, not knowing what is wrong with our bodies.

There is still a shortage of doctors with the right knowledge about endometriosis / adenomyosis and it takes an average of 7-9 years of someone’s life to even get diagnosed.

Thats exactly why it’s so important to spread the word and highlight this illness, which is also the reason I created this series. If it only reaches one person and make them feel they are not alone in their pain, my goal is already reached.
